June 2008

The Suffolk & Hadleigh Shows all went well, thanks to all who visited our display and great to see so many of our customers. Carlos did a great job with the BBQ at both our events.  At The Suffolk Show we asked for donations for a sponsored bike ride for East Suffolk MIND, a mental health charity. We had been approached by the Holmes’s from Otley to support their friend who cycled from Aldeborough to Paris. We raised £130.00 from donations for Carlos’ cooking at the shows - a great effort by everyone, thanks.

Internal news, we were all assessed on operating the loading shovels in the yards. All passed OK, well done Boys! Our quest to become third party accredited to the BSI quality assurance scheme continues on programme. We are looking to early October to be fully accredited to the BSI scheme for Ready mixed concrete. We're going to pull Smurff’s truck off the road for a re-spray... still makes great concrete, however its image is not doing our brand justice!

May 2008

New volumetric now completed, the body eventually found on its journey from Canada and the boy’s have done a great job putting it together. Probably the best yet! Now this is show season, new truck gone to Truck East to be prepared for SED next week. Gary will work wonders cleaning his new vehicle up to show standard.  Then it’s onto the Hadleigh Show with the new Barrel mixer, a week in the yard and finally the Suffolk Show at the end of the month. We’ll be pleased to see you at any of the above events.

April 2008

Went to Commercial Vehicle Show at NEC yesterday with Reg, nice lunch Scania!  Silo installation been a bit tricky, but all complete now. Dean has had quite a few problems to get to grips with, particularly electrical to do with co-ordinating the tanker filling bellows and the starting of the silo unloading augers. We had to turn the whole installation around 180 degrees as the auger to connect the silo to the bellows was too steep.  This resulted in adding a further auger into the system, and programming of the logic controller to allow the various parts to start and stop in the correct sequence. The result however is exactly what we wanted the cement bin is filled to the top every time, accommodates all the different trucks and above all there is NO dust!! That will keep the council happy.

Welcome to Mitch who has joined us and is driving Baby Blue a small 6 wheel rear steer vehicle on loan to us while we wait for the new one to arrive. It is in different livery to our own trucks but still a Reimer from Canada, and thank you to everyone who has phoned me to say that someone new has started up. No it is Eastern Concrete in disguise!!

March 2008

This year we have the CON-AGG Expo show, only once every 3 years, again it is in Las Vegas. Taking my mum with me, she needs a bit of a holiday. Silo has been a bit of a disaster, the one we thought we were getting from Poland is now being built in this country, but all should be OK. New truck mixer chassis at Liebherr. Volumetric chassis in yard but no sign of the body from Canada yet. Might be here when I get back.

January 2008

Off to World of Concrete in Las Vegas, yes it is a business trip!! We have two new vehicles this year, a new barrel mixer for Gary scheduled for March, and a new volumetric for Bob, hopefully in April. The new silo is scheduled for delivery beginning of March. We are all enjoying working from the new yard, the biggest problem is lighting, but as the nights are about to start getting shorter and the electrician has done his stuff things will improve.
